tots 1.5 to 2.5 Years

The Fit Tots ages 1.5 to 2.5 class introduces the toddler to the gym as a place of fun and making friends. This class runs 30 minutes and involves at least one caregiver to help foster the toddler’s comfort in a new setting while allowing them to safety explore their surroundings with the ability to easily check in with their caregiver. Toddlers will get to explore the gym and practice developmentally appropriate skills to gain mastery and confidence as a result. 

Gross motor skills to master at this age:

  • Sits, crawls, walks 
  • Begins running
  • Able to pull or carry a toy while walking
  • Climbs onto/down from furniture independently 
  • Walks up and down steps with support
  • Picks up toys from the floor without falling over
  • Jumps up 2 inches

tots 2.5 to 3.5 Years

The Fit Tots ages 2.5 to 3.5 class continues to introduce the toddler to the gym as a place of fun and making friends as well as increasing their sense of confidence away from their caregiver. This class is 45 minutes and does not involve caregivers but is sensitive to a toddler’s separation anxiety allowing for reconnecting with caregiver and encouraging continued exploration. Toddlers will begin to be introduced to fundamental Taekwondo movements while exploring the gym and practicing developmentally appropriate skills to gain mastery and confidence as a result. 

Gross motor skills to master at this age:

  • Imitates standing on one foot
  • Imitates simple bilateral movements of limbs (e.g. arms up together)
  • Climbs jungle gym and ladders
  • Pedals a tricycle
  • Walks up/down stairs with alternating feet
  • Jumps in place with two feet together
  • Jumps forward 4 inches 
  • Able to walk on tip toes
  • Catches using body

Kids 3 to 5 Years

The Fit Kids ages 3 to 5 class builds on the fundamental skills learned until now and introduces Taekwondo techniques while still making the gym as a place of fun and making friends. This class is also 45 minutes long and kids will begin to be introduced to Taekwondo techniques while exploring the gym and practicing developmentally appropriate skills to gain mastery, flexibility, strength and confidence as a result. Taekwondo techniques learned at this age include forward/backward rolls, knee ups, hopping with knee up, front kick, hammer fist and Korean Taekwondo vocabulary.

Gross motor skills to master at this age:

  • Stands on one foot for up to 5 seconds
  • Able to hop on one foot
  • Kicks a ball forward
  • Throws a ball using overhand throw 
  • Catches a ball that has been bounced
  • Runs around obstacles
  • Able to walk on a line
  • Jumps over an object and lands with both feet together
  • Runs with good coordination and stops without falling

Kids 5 to 7 Years

The Fit Kids ages 5 to 7 class gets kids ready to join beginners kids Taekwondo classes by acquiring the fundamental Taekwondo skills and techniques they’ll need to succeed. Classes are 45 minutes and continue to help master important gross motor milestones while learning more Taekwondo techniques and gaining flexibility and strength. Taekwondo techniques learned at this age include forward/backward rolls, cartwheels, front, axe, and round kicks, side-steps, hammer fist, middle punch, low and middle block, Korean Taekwondo vocabulary and meditation.

Gross motor skills to master at this age:

  • Able to walk upstairs while holding an object
  • Walks backward toe-heel
  • Jumps forward 10 times without falling
  • Skips and gallops forward after demonstration
  • Hangs from a bar for at least 5 seconds
  • Steps forward with leg on same side as throwing arm when throwing a ball
  • Catches a ball using hands only
  • Able to walk on a balance beam
  • Able to skip using a jump rope
  • Hops farther distance/height  
  • Demonstrates mature throwing and catching patterns
  • Stands on 1 foot with eye closed
  • Skips with alternating feet
